Keep a mistakes notebook
Your own mistakes are the best revision notes you will ever have.
Mistakes are information
Every wrong answer tells you exactly what to study next. Students who study their mistakes improve much faster than those who just do more questions.
Most students make the same few mistakes again and again. A notebook helps you spot yours.
What to write
For each mistake write: the question, what you did wrong, the correct method, and a one-line rule to remember.
Example entry
- Question: (x + 3)2
- My answer: x2 + 9 ✗
- Correct: x2 + 6x + 9
- Rule: (a + b)2 has a middle term, 2ab.
